Grand Seiko’s SBGC201 is part of the Sport Collection and housed in a 43.5mm stainless steel case that is 51.2mm lug to lug, with a sapphire crystal (with inner anti-reflective coating) and screw down crown providing 100m of water resistance. The Spring Drive 9R86 Caliber (assembled and adjusted by hand at the Shinshu Watch Studio) provides a smooth sweeping seconds hand with an astonishing precision of +/- 15 seconds per month, unprecedented for a watch powered by a mainspring. This movement is a horological tour de force providing a vertical clutch and column wheel chronograph with 30 minute and 12-hour counters, “Flyer GMT” capability (with a 24-hour hand and adjustability of the main hour hand in one-hour jumps, backwards or forwards), date, and an indicator showcasing 72 hours of power reserve.

Grand Seiko is known for intricate dials and incredible casework utilizing Zaratsu polishing to create a mirror finish. Inspired by a stopwatch used in the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, this watch has pushers with a screw lock system to prevent accidental engagement and a two-stage engagement so the chronograph can be armed with a halfway press. It has a silken sunray champagne dial that provides wonderful light interplay, and an initial look belies the complexity and effort to create one of the most complex dials in the Grand Seiko catalog, and a sapphire case back to view the movement. This Grand Seiko comes on a five-link polished and satin finished bracelet with a three-fold clasp and micro-adjust to finely adjust the fit.
